HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU VISITED THE DENTIST FOR A CHECK-UP only to be told ‘we need you to come back because you need a filling’? We all have busy lives theses days and a return visit to the dentist is not one of our favourite pastimes! And it costs. I’m sure we all have better things to spend our time and money on!

Visit the Dentist Less

Here are some secret tips we are sharing on how to spend less time at the dentist.

Forget the fizz

Fizzy drinks are the perfect combination of acid and sugar. Perfect that is if you are a bacteria that likes to cause tooth decay. Even the sugar free stuff is still so acidic that it can dissolve your teeth. If you regularly drink 2 or more cans a day you will probably end up with tooth decay and be spending more time at the dentist having fillings. So cut out the fizzy drinks and see your dentist less!

Give up gum disease

Gum disease is a complicated disease with a simple name and it can lead to loose teeth and dentures. There are a number of things that can contribute to you getting gum disease, your diet, diabetes, how well you clean your teeth are amongst them but one of the major causes is smoking. If you smoke you probably already have gum disease but may not even know it. Smoking is a major causative factor but it also hides the fact that you have gum disease because it thickens the gums and hides the bleeding. Smoking is also a major cause of mouth cancer so giving it up helps your gums and your general health.

Floss away

People who floss once a day don’t have as many dental problems as people who don’t. Using floss helps to get rid of the bacteria/plaque that are between your teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Cleaning between the teeth significantly reduces the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Fix your own teeth

Did you know that most modern tooth pastes fluoride? Of course you did! Fluoride can help to repair cavities that are in their early stage of developing. Tooth decay in its early stages starts out with the enamel of your teeth becoming week as the calcium dissolves. Fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel and can help it remineralise and become strong again, but you must catch it early. So brush twice daily with a fluoride tooth paste, you can even use a fluoride mouthwash.
